Legacy Tours of Flagler College

  • General
  • Time: 10 a.m & 2 p.m.
  • Location: Flagler College Rotunda • 74 King St.
  • Fee: $6

Information:

Legacy Tours of Flagler College highlight the architectural heritage of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, listed as a National Historic Landmark. Built by millionaire developer Henry M. Flagler in 1887, the Ponce is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture and was one of the most exclusive resorts of its day.

Tours depart from the main lobby (Rotunda) of the College located at 74 King St. Tickets may be purchased at this location 15 minutes prior to each tour, or at Flagler’s Legacy located at 59 Saint George Street (open daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.)
Visitors will begin in the Rotunda where they will stare up into an 80-foot domed ceiling supported in part by eight ornately carved oak caryatids, robed women copied from the temple of Diana in Greece.

Other stops include the Dining Hall, where 79 of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s stained glass windows are displayed. Then onto the Flagler Room, originally the hotel’s Grand Parlor, where visitors gaze upon Tiffany Austrian crystal chandeliers, a massive onyx Thomas Edison clock - one of the first ever to be used in a public building - and a historical photo gallery of the Flagler family.

Pricing is $6 for adults, $5 for St. Augustine residents with a valid ID, and $1 for children under the age of 12. Individual reservations are not necessary. For group rates or more information about the tours, please contact Samantha Peacock Palmer, Director of Historical Tours at (904) 823-3378.

Tours run daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the college is in session. Tours run on the hour during winter and summer breaks. Please note that at no time are the tours free of charge nor is the Dining Hall open to the public.
