Spring 2005 Men's Tennis Report

Feb. 9

Flagler College 0 - University of North Florida 9

Flagler men's tennis team traveled to Jacksonville on Feb 9th to take on University of North Florida. The Saints lost 9-0 in their season opener. UNF is ranked 3 in the nation for Div II schools.

“The team did not play as good as they should,” coach Walter Shinn said.

Feb. 16

Flagler College 4 - Rollins College 5

The Saints played Rollins College at home Feb 16. The Saints lost 4-5 with a couple of tight matches. Rollins College is ranked 5th in the nation for Div II schools.

"We played solid but did not come out with the win," coach Walter Shinn said.

Feb. 18

Flagler College 4 - Florida Southern College 5

The men's tennis team hosted Florida Southern College on Feb 18. The Saints lost with a close score of 4-5. Florida Southern College is ranked 20 in the nation for Div. II schools.

“We could have won that game,” coach Walter Shinn said. “Every match will make us stronger, and I'm not worried with our 0-3 records.”

The Saints have a very young team this year, starting four freshmen players.

Feb. 24

Flagler College 9 - St. Thomas University 0

Flagler's men's tennis team played their first conference game, against St. Thomas, on Saturday, Feb. 24th. The Saints came out with an easy 9-0 win.

March 5

Flagler College 8 - Webber International University 1

The Saints defeated Webber International University in their second conference game with a score of 8-1.

The Saints improve to a 3-3 overall record and 2-0 in conference.

March 10

Flagler College 5 - Aquinas University 4

Flagler’s Saints tennis team played a tough game on March 10 playing against Aquinas University. It was a really close match, but the Saints managed to come up with a win with a score of 5-4. All the scores were very close showing that it was a well-fought game by both teams. The Saints improved to 5-3 overall record.

#5 Singles Flagler's Haines defeats Aquinas' Flick 6-0, 6-1

#6 Singles Aquinas' Karasinki defeats Flagler’s Koller 6-3, 6-4

#1 Doubles Flagler's Jutronic and Robles defeat Aquinas' Karasinki and Flick 8-5

#2 Doubles Aquinas' Rose and Bruining defeat Flagler's Jonsson and Haines 8-5

#3 Doubles Aquinas' Walsh and Grashorn defeat Flagler's Rueff and Guerrero 8-5

March 11

Flagler College 9 - Webber International University 0

The Saints defeated Xavier University on Friday, March 11, 9-0. The Saints recorded a perfect day without losing a single game in all 9 matches. The Saints increased their record on the season to 6-3 and 2-0 in conference.

March 20

Flagler College 7 - Concordia College (NY) 2

The Flagler men’s team defeated Concordia College at home on Monday March 21, with a score of 7-2. In Singles the #1 and 6 seat lost in really close games. In doubles the Saints played tough in all 3 spots winning all three games close. 

The win over Concordia College gives the Saints an 8-3 overall record and 3-0 in conference.

March 29

Flagler College 0 - ERAU 9

The Flagler men’s tennis team played arch rival Embry-Riddle University on Tuesday, March 29, at home. The Saints played hard in all their matches but could not come up with a win. The Saints were defeated with a score of 9-0. The loss gives the Saints an 8-4 overall record and 3-1 in conference.
