History

Some of our most outstanding athletic success stories at Flagler include our tennis team, with seven national team championships to its credit, and our baseball team, which has sent eight players to professional teams in recent years. In 2004, Flagler inaugurated its first Hall of Fame athletes.

Men's tennis won NAIA national championships in 1977 and 1986 and has captured 10 district titles. Women's tennis won five consecutive NAIA national championships in 1987, '88, '89, '90 and '91 and has captured seven district titles.

In 1998, tennis player Simona Galik won the NAIA Women's National Singles title after a 31-0 season.

In 1999, Ricardo Mena claimed the NAIA Men's National Singles title, and women's basketball won the Sun Conference championship.

In 2000 and 2001, the women's basketball team again claimed the Florida Sun Conference championship.

In 2002, the men's soccer program appeared in the National Tournament for the first time ever. They finished as the 13th seed in the tournament after being defeated in the first round. Both the women's soccer and volleyball programs finished their seasons runner-up in the Region XIV Conference.

In 2003, the men's golf program received a 6th place pre-season national ranking.

The Flagler College Athletic Program was recognized in USA Today on January 2, 2003, as a top 10 sports program based on a point system established by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

In 2003, the men's basketball team won its first-ever Florida Sun Conference championship, sending the Saints to the NAIA Division II National Tournament also for the first time ever. Unseeded, they were defeated in the first round. During the second round of the FSC tournament, coach Bo Clark was recognized for his 300th win at Flagler.

Also in 2003, for the second straight year in a row, Flagler College has been recognized as an NAIA Champions of Character Institution. This award certifies that Flagler College has upheld the five core values of Respect, Servant Leadership, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Integrity. Also, beginning this year, the NAIA recognizes March 4 as National Sportsmanship Day and has asked each institution to name one team to represent the college. This year’s team sport is the men’s soccer team who qualified for the National Tournament for the first time in the program's history.
