ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Flagler College’s men’s basketball
team held off a tough SCAD men’s team to once again advance to the Florida
Sun Conference Championship Friday night. The Saints hit their freethrows
down the stretch and defeated Savannah College 85-73 in the second semifinal
game Friday.
The Saints will face Embry-Riddle for the third time this season for the FSC
Championship, tonight at 7 p.m. The Eagles defeated Florida Memorial 76-66
in the first semifinal game of the night.
Flagler shot 52 percent from the field in the second half and made their freethrows
in the last few minutes to finally put away the Bees.
Senior Guard and FSC Player of the Year Carlton Summers led the Saints with
23 points, and all five starters scored in double figures. Darrell Freeman
had 17, Chris Crumpler had 14, Bryan Borstelmann had 13 and Rafael Peixoto
had 11.
“SCAD came in with a good game plan tonight,” Flagler Coach
Bo Clark said. “I give them a lot of credit. They didn’t back down
tonight against the No. 8 team in the country and just kept coming at us.”
