Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs

Financial aid programs sponsored by the State of Florida which involve submission of an application to Flagler College are outlined in the following paragraphs:

Florida Resident Access Grant (FRAG)

The FRAG (formerly the Florida Tuition Voucher) was created by the 1979 Florida Legislature to provide tuition assistance to resident students attending eligible nonprofit private colleges and universities located in the state. Funds for the support of the FRAG are contingent each year on the appropriations made available by the Florida Legislature. Thus, the amount of the grant varies from year to year.

To receive the FRAG, at least one of a dependent student's parents must have been a permanent one year resident of the State of Florida prior to the first day of classes of the semester.  If the student is claiming an independent status, he/she must have been a permanent one year resident, for other than educational purposes, prior to the first day of classes of the semester. In addition, a student must be enrolled on a full-time basis (12 hours or more), must be pursuing his/her first undergraduate degree, and he/she must meet very specific satisfactory academic progress requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to: maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and earning 12 hours each semester for which the FRAG is received. A student can receive the FRAG for a maximum of nine semesters.

Florida Minority Teacher Scholarship

This scholarship was initiated to attract minority students into teaching careers in the State of Florida. The amount of the scholarship is $4,000 per year. Eligible students include African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanic-American and Native Americans. In addition, a student must be a Florida resident, a junior or senior, and must be accepted into the Teacher Education Program at Flagler.

Florida Prepaid

Flagler College does accept the Florida Prepaid College Plan.  Once admitted, students must submit the proper forms to notify the state of the intent to enroll.  If you have further questions, feel free to contact the Flagler College Business Office, (904) 819-6230.

Annual Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available on a year-to-year basis. These scholarships are provided by individuals or organizations who specify the eligibility requirements. Those requirements vary widely and include such things as academic record, need, major, intended career, and area of residency. Annual scholarships will be publicized as they become available, and application instructions are provided at that time. Please note: full-time enrollment is required for all Flagler College institutional scholarships.

Athletic Scholarships

As an NCAA Division II institution, athletic scholarships are awarded at the coach's discretion in the following sports: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross-country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis and volleyball.

Work Program

This program is designed to provide non-need students with work opportunities on campus and at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB). Since priority for jobs is given to students with need, a non-need student is assigned a job usually when he/she is specifically requested by a work supervisor because of special skills or talent. A student not requested on this basis can apply for a job through the Office of Financial Aid, at which time he/she is placed on a waiting list. The normal work week is six hours and the minimum wage is paid. The standard work award is $700 per semester for on-campus jobs and $700 for FSDB jobs.

Lewis-Wiley Scholar Awards

Two awards are given annually to high school seniors who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership. The awards are based on merit without regard to financial need. The funds for the Lewis-Wiley Scholar Awards are provided by a private trust established by Mr. Lawrence Lewis, Jr., and his sister, Mrs. James L. Wiley.
