Law School Preparation
and Application Checklist

For the purposes of this checklist, the application process typically begins in February of your junior year or approximately eighteen months prior to when the applicant expects to begin law school. If you are taking the LSAT in October or December, adjust this schedule accordingly. This is a rough outline which you should adapt to your individual circumstances. Order: 1. The Official LSAT SuperPrep
  2. LSAT PrepTests (latest 10).
(order online at www.LSAC.org)
 
March-June

Prepare for LSAT:
1) Complete the two preparation tools above.
2) Use old LSAT exams under test conditions.
3) Buy Logic Games booklets (101 Puzzles in Thought and Logic by C.R. Wylie, Jr., for example)
4) Use ARCO LSAT Reading Comprehension Workbook and ARCO Logic Workbook.

 
April-May Register for LSAT (registration deadlines are on-line at the above website).
At the same time you should subscribe to LSDAS (good for 5 years).
 
June Take the LSAT (The only P.M. Test). Others are A.M. in Oct., Dec. & Feb.  
August-
September
Have official college transcript(s) sent to LSDAS. Download Transfer Request forms at www.lsac.org and give to College Registrar(s).
Check law school web sites for pertinent information about applying, etc.
 
September Check LSDAS report for accuracy
Talk to those you have chosen to write Letters of Recommendation (give them I-9 forms downloaded from www.LSAC.org).
Write a personal statement (Have a professor review first draft).
 
September-November Meet with admissions representatives at a Law Fair/Law Forum or personal interview.  
October-November Fill out applications with great care. Apply on-line or with paper.  
October-November-December Send applications to at least six Law Schools, two of which are safety-net.  
November-December Check to make sure application file is complete with the law schools.  
January File your financial aid applications, if you haven't already.  
April-June Be sure to pay your seat deposit on time. Schools have different deadlines.
