Spanish and Latin American Studies
The Spanish and Latin American Studies Department at Flagler College offers comprehensive undergraduate programs in the languages, literatures, and cultures of Latin America and Spain. Its mission is to:
- Provide education in Spanish from 100 through 400 levels of Spanish which emphasizes the four elements of communicative language learning: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
- Prepare students for graduate school and for jobs in education, business, government, and in other areas.
We provide opportunities for study abroad experiences such as our current programs to Costa Rica and Peru. Our language laboratory and the native language tutor program are excellent resources to increase your foreign language fluency. There are numerous opportunities for research, independent studies, and internships—many within the local community. As St. Augustine is the oldest continuously-inhabited European city in the U.S., many research and learning opportunities exist here that exist nowhere else. We challenge the individual student to exceed his/her expectations of what they can accomplish. Finally, the program also offers a minor in Latin American Studies as well as first-year 100 level courses in French, German, Italian, and Portuguese.
