COMM Week 2018 Speaker Schedule  

All lectures will take place in the Gamache-Koger Theatre. Events are only open to Flagler students, faculty, and staff.

  • Monday, Mar. 19th

    Presenting Speakers

    Students will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have for each presenting speaker.

    Speaker: Michael Deibert
    Time: 10:00 AM
    Location: Gamache-Koger Theater
    What: Michael Deibert is an author and journalist whose writing has appeared in the Guardian, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal.

    Speaker: John Daigle
    Time: 11:00 AM
    Location: Gamache-Koger Theater
    What: John Daigle owns his own full service agency in Jacksonville, Daigle Creative which services small business and large nonprofits, Fortune 500 companies and large government/education organizations.

    Strategic Communication Panel

    The Many Facets of Strategic Communication

    Time: 2:00 PM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theatre
    What: Panelists will be asked various questions about their jobs, moderated by RoseMary Tutt. Students will have the opportunity to ask their own questions at the end of the panel.

    Presenting Speakers

    Students will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have for each presenting speaker.

    Speaker: Jim Trotter
    Time: 10:00 AM
    Location: Gamache-Koger Theater
    What: Jim Trotter is a ESPN Senior Writer. He has written extensively on player activism in the NFL and will be speaking about his experience throughout his career.

    Speaker: Ilyssa Goodman
    Time: 11:00 AM
    Location: Gamache-Koger Theater
    What: Ilyssa Goodman is a Hollywood film producer and director. One of her best known movies is A Cinderella Story, in which she was a producer. She has also been involved in a variety of other movies and tv shows.

    Journalism Panel

    How Writers, Photographers, Designers and Other Creatives Can Survive - and Thrive - In Today's Media Environment 

    Time: 1:00 PM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theatre
    What: Panelists will be asked various questions about their jobs moderated by Professor Tracey Eaton. Students will get the opportunity to ask their own questions at the end of the panel.

    What: movie directed by Ilyssa Goodman

    Communication Networking Fair

    Time: 5:50 - 7:30 PM
    Location: Hospitality Suite, Second Floor of The Commons at the FEC Complex
    What: “This event will bring together students with about 15-20 employers in a setting designed to engage both parties in discussion on industry, internships, and hopefully jobs for after graduation” - Tara Stevenson, Director of the Career Development Center.

  • Wednesday, Mar. 21st

    Speaker: James Alex Bonus

    What: James Alex Bous, a Flagler College alumni who is currently an assistant professor at Ohio State University will speaking about his experience at Flagler and thereafter.

    Women's History Month Panel

    Five Nasty Women Talk Feminism

    Time: 11:00 AM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theatre
    What: Panelists will be asked various questions about their jobs, moderated by Dr. Kristine Warrenburg. Students will get the opportunity to ask their own questions at the end of the panel.

    Time: 2:00 PM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theatre
    What: Panelists will be asked various questions about their jobs and how life at Flagler has helped them in their careers, moderated by Dr.Jim Pickett. Students will get the opportunity to ask their own questions at the end of the panel.

    Alumni reception

    Time: 5:00 PM
    Location: The Floridian, 72 Spanish Street
    What: This is for all current Flagler College students to be able to talk to alumni and/or professors in a more relaxed setting. This provides a great networking opportunity.

  • Thursday, Mar. 22nd

    Tiffen Steadicam Presentation

    Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00PM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theatre
    What: This is a demonstration/presentation on the basics of using a Tiffen Steadicam.

    Induction Ceremony

    Time: 3:00PM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theater
    What: Induction ceremony for the Phi Omicron Chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society

    Student Showcase

    Time: 4:00PM
    Location: Gamache Koger Theater
    What: A showing of students' work, which will include Blue Whale and AJ+.

Trevor Worley has taken his passion for filmmaking to another world and his short film, Martian American, is a clear departure from what he's done before.

 

Communication professor Tracey Eaton continues a successful career of investigative journalism and reporting.
