Art History

The Art History major provides students with an opportunity to study and gain a deeper appreciation of the culturally diverse histories of art.

Program Description

Flagler College offers a major and minor in Art History. Our faculty provides students with a foundational knowledge of art history, visual culture, the methodologies of the field, and approaches to understanding art within broader social and historical contexts. Students learn to think critically, to evaluate works visual culture, to analyze and synthesize primary and secondary sources, and to communicate their analyses in written and oral forms.

Entry-level coursework in the major and minor provides students with a firm foundation in art history, while advanced courses and electives allow an opportunity for in-depth engagement across periods and approaches. With a degree from Flagler in Art History, students are prepared to pursue a range of careers in the arts, including museum and gallery positions, work as educators, jobs in publishing, and more.
