Students
interested
in
art
have
a choice
of
three
majors,
five
minors
and
one
special
program:

Requirements:

The
Art
Department
has
the
privilege
of
retaining
one
work
from
each
graduating
senior
for
its
permanent
collection.
-
No
grade
lower
than
a "C" in
a
studio
course
will
be
accepted
toward
completion
of
degree
requirements.
Advisement: Not
all
courses
can
be
offered
every
semester.
Accordingly,
students
are
advised
to
plan
carefully
their
programs
of
study.
Prerequisites: No
prerequisites
are
required
unless
so
stated;
exeptions
to
prerequisites
may
be
made
with
departmental
approval.
All
exceptions
must
be
aproved
in
writing
by
the
department
chair.
Sophomore
Review: All
students
choosing
to
apply
to
the
Art
Department,
including
freshmen
and
transfer
students,
will
receive
the
designation
of
ART/P
(Visual
Art/Provisional)
or
ARG/P
(Graphic
Design/Provisional).
this "provisional" status
will
change
to
an
ART
or
ARG
designation
after
the
student
has
successfully
completed
the
Sophomore
Portfolio
Review.
Applicants
who
do
not
pass
the
Sophomore
Portfolio
Review
will
have
their
designation
changed
to
UND,
or "undecided," until
they
have
chosen
another
major.
All
students
applying
for
acceptance
to
the
Art
Department
must
participate
in
the
review
during
the
second
semester
of
their
sophomore
year.
Students
must
submit
a portfolio
consisting
of
six
examples
of
their
work,
an
unofficial
transcript
prepared
by
the
Office
of
the
Registrar,
and
a written
statement
regarding
their
future
career
goals.
Portfolios
are
evaluated
based
on
the
quality
of
the
work
submitted
and
the
presentation.
In
addition,
consideration
is
given
to
faculty
recommendations
and
the
student's
grades.
Students
must
understand
that
this
is
an
evaluative
process
where
the
focus
is
to
ensure
the
high
performance
standards
of
the
program.
Applicants
who
do
not
successfully
complete
the
review
process
are
admitted
as
majors
to
the
Art
Department.
The
decisions
made
by
the
Faculty
Committee
in
the
Sophomore
Review
process
are
final
and
cannot
be
appealed.
Special
Fees: Some
studio
art
courses
require
a
lab
fee
to
cover
the
costs
of
supplies
used
by
students
enrolled
in
the
course.
A
fee
for
color
prints
is
also
imposed
on
students
enrolled
in
graphic
design
courses.
Studio
courses
that
require
students
to
purchase
specific
art
supplies
will
provide
a
list
of
those
supplies
on
the
course
syllabus
distributed
at
the
beginning
of
the
semester.
Transfer
Stduents: All
transfer
students
majoring
in
art
or
graphic
design
are
required
to
take
one
drawing
course
(ART
105
or
106)
and
Design
I
(ART
223)
at
Flagler.
All
exemptions
from
this
requirement
must
be
approved
in
writing
by
the
department
chair.
