Flagler College - A Distinctive Approach to Academics

Study Abroad

“This experience was important for me to have because I felt like I needed some perspective in life.  Traveling around the whole world helped me to realize my place in life and to understand what life is really like in India and exactly what communism is.  Studying abroad teaches you lessons that you cannot learn from a text book or in a classroom setting.”

What will you Discover?

Students who participate in study abroad have a richer, more complete educational experience because they are learning about other cultures and visiting places most people have only read about.

“There are different ways of living all over the world ...I wanted to travel, but the Muslim influence was a big part of the reason that I made the decision to go to a place like Azerbaijan. It was a wonderful experience. Often this discussion of culture led to conversations about Islam and Christianity, their similarities and differences, as well as political corruption.”

Study Abroad

Each program provides a unique experience depending on your travel and educational goals.  Study Abroad and Study Away opportunities are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters.  Students are eligible for study abroad beginning the sophomore year (at least 24 credit hours) and must have a 2.50 cumulative GPA.

Faculty-Led Programs:

Many departments offer faculty-led summer trips that are specifically designed for your major.  The locations will vary from year to year, but each offering will have an itinerary that is designed by the attending faculty member.  Students of sophomore or higher standing are eligible for these programs.

  • Costa Rica: Latin American Studies
  • Greece and Turkey: Political Science
  • Italy: Art and Religion

The trips can be just as rewarding as study abroad, but offer different opportunities.  These trips are open to students of sophomore standing and the locations also changes from year to year.
