"I have always been a shy person, but through the learning community I have learned to work in group settings and develop a better understanding of teamwork."

The transition from high school to college can be daunting, both academically and socially. Finding the right balance between making new friends and making good grades can be harder than anticipated.
At Flagler we want to help make your college transition successful. One way we do this is through our Ignite program, which places freshmen into learning communities — a cluster of courses designed around a central, interdisciplinary theme, with each class attended by the same group of students.
Flagler College’s Ignite program is a year-long experience that enables freshmen to select a cluster of courses in both the fall and spring semesters as part of their class schedules. The clusters are designed to fulfill general education requirements or, in some cases, requirements for a particular major.
The Ignite learning communities are a proven way to strengthen what Flagler College is already known for: providing students with a learning environment that’s both supportive and challenging. Flagler’s classes are designed to:
Nationally recognized as an “enriching high-impact experience,” learning communities are designed to maximize your entire freshman experience and provide you with the grounding that will set you firmly on the path to success in both the academic and student life programs of the College. While emphasizing academic challenge, learning communities also provide a supportive learning environment with many opportunities for student-faculty interaction. Focusing on active and collaborative learning, students engage themselves and each other in the learning process while also participating together in co-curricular activities and campus events.
Of course, in addition to helping you thrive in the classroom, the supportive environment of the Ignite program will assist your transition into a new social environment — helping you make new and lasting friendships, encouraging a sense of belonging and participation in the Flagler community, and helping you cope with the new and often daunting responsibilities — both in the classroom and beyond — that inevitably come with the college experience.
Participation in the Ignite Program will be both challenging and rewarding, fostering a deep and productive relationship with Flagler College that we hope will endure throughout the four-year college experience.
