"Diversity in a Democracy: What Can We Learn from Socrates?”
Dr. Georgia Nugent, Senior Fellow at The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), is president emerita of Kenyon College and former interim president of The College of Wooster. Prior to the presidency of Kenyon, she served as assistant to the president, associate provost, and dean of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Princeton University and as professor of Classics at Princeton and Brown universities. She has also taught on the Classics faculties of Cornell University as well as Swarthmore and Kenyon Colleges. Nugent is currently a member of the governing boards of St. Lawrence University, The University of Richmond, and The American University of Sharjah. She is also the president of The Society for Classical Studies.
Dr. Nugent has been a strong advocate for the continuing importance, power, and vitality of the liberal arts in the 21st century. Her speech will focus on how Socrates, the ancient Greek philosopher, can offer us insight into moving forward in an increasing complex world.
