Professional Profile:

Laura Mongiovi is an interdisciplinary artist. Her research is based in historical origins related to sensory experience. Mongiovi investigates the need we have to create space and objects. Spatial and tactile desires form the basis of who we are as a culture during a particular time and place. Mongiovi investigates these ideas and interprets into her work.

Mongiovi’s teaching methods expose students to historical practices of art making while paying homage to contemporary art practices. Collaborations, such as TOUCH Project that brings together Flagler students with Florida School for Deaf and Blind students, utilizes the language of touch to create moments of human engagement. Large scale projects such as FOOD LOVE and Exposing Details provide opportunity for students to conceptualize ideas while working with local community members. Mongiovi’s pedagogy allows students to obtain experiences that reach beyond the scope of the classroom.

Mongiovi exhibits her work including solo exhibitions, juried and group shows. She teaches across the curriculum and presents her teaching pedagogy at national conferences. Mongiovi guest lectures about her work, leads workshops and has been a visiting artist at other institutions.
