Laura Mongiovi: Faculty and Staff
Department:
Art & Design
Research, Professional and Creative Activity:
Education:
- MFA, University of Colorado at Boulder
- BFA, Florida State University Loyola New Orleans, General Studies
Area of Research:
Mongiovi's work is a response to cultural artifacts, rituals and beliefs. She investigates the processes, materials and concepts used to create objects, textiles and architecture. Within these diverse approaches to cultivating traditional practices exists a mutual human need to satisfy personal desire. Rare objects, garments laden with color and texture, palaces with lavish gardens and tantalizing sensations of the palate have influenced paradigms of commerce, culture and science. Historical details reveal the common need we have to please the senses. Mongiovi's work pays homage to origins while alluding to personal experience.
