Communication
Why should I choose the communication major?
In an “information society” like ours, it is only natural that communication is one of the fastest growing industries. If you have ever dreamed about a career in journalism, radio, television, advertising, public relations, or any field that involves using the media to address large and diverse audiences, Flagler's communication program—that focuses as much on the development of practical skills as on theoretical knowledge—is sure to interest you. But that's not all: the communication program also helps you develop the verbal, written, and public speaking skills that are sought by employers across a wide variety of professions including business, education, government, and the non-profit sector.

What does the program at Flagler offer?
Flagler's communication program offers a powerful blend of a challenging curriculum designed to help you launch a successful career and a distinguished faculty offering a wealth of theoretical and professional experience (including a former correspondent with CBS and a writer and producer of Late Night with David Letterman ). Flagler communication majors receive a thorough theoretical background in broadcasting, public relations, and ethics and law in mass communication before selecting a concentration in either broadcasting or public relations/journalism. They acquire professional skills by working in state-of-the-art facilities (such as the college radio station— WFCF —which broadcasts at 10,000 watts, compared to the 100 watts of most other college stations in the U.S.!). In addition, they also benefit from an extensive array of internship opportunities: the list of employers who have recently hired Flagler students as interns includes various commercial and public television studios in Jacksonville , The St. Augustine Record, local and national advertising and public relations firms, Sports Illustrated, MTV, Dateline NBC, and World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.
