Programs of Study
MINORS: Journalism

The journalism minor is available to students who are not majoring in Communication but wish to augment their major with journalism skills. This minor is ideal for the student who plans to become a subject-matter-expert and have the ability to write for or broadcast in the media professionally about his or her chosen field.

This major requires students to complete 22 credit hours as follows:

  • COM 208 - Introduction to Mass Communication (3 credit hours)
  • COM 210 - Writing for Mass Communication (3)
  • COM 251 - Principles of Journalism (3)
  • COM 274 - Publications Workshop (1)
  • COM 306 - Electronic News I OR COM 352 - Editing and Layout
  • COM 351 - News and Feature Reporting
  • COM 360 - Mass Media and Society in America
  • COM 420 - Ethics and Law in Mass Communication
